Sophia Deanne

So, being the bookworm that I am, I have read over 20 books these summer holidays - one per day if I can- and so far, these are the ones that have stood out to me. I have to admit, I cheated a little with the first one having read the first two books of the series ages ago, but I only finished the final book at the beginning of January.  So here you have some of my favourite summer reads this summer (duh Sophia, it was like it was going to be the 2013 summer haha!)
Oooh also I thought I would keep things a little simple and offer my opinion in dot-point form so it would be easier to understand my view on the book.

The Reason to Breathe Chronicles by Rebecca Donovan (Reason to Breathe, Barely Breathing, Out of breath)

"No one tried to get involved with me, and I kept to myself. This was the place where everything was supposed to be safe and easy. How could Evan Mathews unravel my constant universe in just one day?"

In the affluent town of Weslyn, Connecticut, where most people worry about what to be seen in and who to be seen with, Emma Thomas would rather not be seen at all. She’s more concerned with feigning perfection while pulling down her sleeves to conceal the bruises - not wanting anyone to know how far from perfect her life truly is. Without expecting it, she finds love. It challenges her to recognize her own worth - but at the risk of revealing the terrible secret she’s desperate to hide.

Reason to Breathe is an electrifying page turner from start to finish, a unique tale of life-changing love, unspeakable cruelty, and one girl’s fragile grasp of hope.”

But what do I think of this you may ask? Well…

-          All time favourite, for the first book to the last, it was an emotional roller-coaster
-          Finished the third book and was a perfect end to this heart-pounding breathtaking series that words just wont do it justice, like I could rave about this book forever.
-          It a magnificent great (tragic) story. Get your tissues out
This was a no-brainer, 10/10 hands down.

Girl online by Zoe Sugg (aka Zoella)

‘Penny has a Secret. Under the alias Girl Online, Penny Blogs her hidden feelings about friendship, boys, her crazy family and the panic attacks that have begun to take over her life. When thins go from bad to worse, her family whisks her away to New York, where she meets Noah: a gorgeous, guitar-strumming American. Suddenly Penny is falling in love – and capturing every moment of it on her blog.
But Noah has a secret too. One that threatens to ruin Penny’s cover – and her closest friendship- forever.’

Thoughts?....

-          It was cute, fun, quirky and I loved the plot and love story. Just goes to show keeping things simple is amazing and will leave you extremely happe
-          Loved the new York/brighton setting
-          Made me happy and I was generally satisfied with everything!
-          I am aware that this was ghostwritten, but so what, a good book is a good book. It was a bit hard to get into at the beginning but by Chapter 4 (p.36) I was sold and offers a good lesson about friendship.

I give this a 4/5

The Shatter me chronicles by Tahereh Mavi (Shatter me, Unravel me, Ignite me)

“I have a curse
I have a gift

I am a monster
I'm more than human

My touch is lethal
My touch is power

I am their weapon
I will fight back

Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior”

And what did you think?....

-Really enjoyed this one, the whole super-powers were badass.
-Loved the love story and character development throughout the books especially Juiliette and Warners characters in Ignite Me.
-A good thriller, post-apocolyptic, with really good descriptions of the settings (as I noticed a lot throughout the series haha!)

Definetly a 4.5/5.
Elixir by Hilary Duff

“Clea Raymond has felt the glare of the spotlight her entire life. The daughter of a renowned surgeon and a prominent Washington DC politician, she has grown to be a talented photojournalist who takes refuge in a career that allows her to travel to the most exotic parts of the world. But after Clea’s father disappears while on a humanitarian mission, Clea’s photos begin to feature eerie, shadowy images of a strange and beautiful man—a man she has never seen before.

When fate brings Clea and this man together, she is stunned by the immediate and powerful connection she feels with him. As they grow closer, they are drawn deep into the mystery behind her father’s disappearance, and they discover the centuries old truth behind their intense bond. Torn by a dangerous love triangle and haunted by a powerful secret that holds their fates, together they race against time to unravel their pasts in order to save their lives—and their futures”

So??...

-Well I loved the plot, where the story was going and the characters of the entire series
-Hilary duff was my childhood dream to grow up and be like her so reading this series was a no brainer, and I wasn’t disappointed!
- Have to admit I was strongly disappointed that we didn’t find out what happened to her father in the final book which I thought ended abruptly. Howver, the love story was pretty good. I think by now its obvious I love me a good love story hahaha!
-Still the first two books were amazing with the whole immortality story and elixir of life is intruiging and well thought out so good job!

3.95/5…the last book was a let down
Tape by Steve Camden
“Record a voice and it lasts forever…

In 1993, Ryan records a diary on an old tape. He talks about his mother’s death, about his dreams, about his love for a new girl at school who doesn’t even know he exists.

In 2013, Ameliah moves in with her grandmother after her parents die. There, she finds a tape in the spare room. A tape with a boy’s voice on it – a voice she can’t quite hear, but which seems to be speaking to her.

Ryan and Ameliah are connected by more than just a tape.

This is their story”

Hmmmm….

-         -  Adorable cover
-       -    Adorable blurb
-          - Disappointing book and lack of character development, like the blurb had nothing to do with a book
-          The cover is still simple and gorgeous and probably the only good thing about this book

   Sorry but it's a  1/5 from me...

Thank you for reading! (in both reading this post or even giving one of these books a go!)

Have a lovely day/night and don’t forget to let me know what your favourite summer or winter book is so I can read it also!

You wake up to a mesmerizing skyline, excited of the new wonders you would see today. You can smell the food, the coffee and you can hear the loud traffic and humming of conversations in the air. Ah, New York, New York. A luxurious escape, even on a budget.  Central park is already alive with the morning joggers and those setting up the food trucks. So many sights to see and not enough time to see them, so you put on your autumn outfit, ready to see what New York brings today.

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is at the top of your list, followed by the effervescent streets of Williamsburg in Brooklyn and finally the stroll through central park, finishing at Wollman Skating Rink. At this point, you a bursting with excitement.

Hello!

If it wasn’t already obvious, I share an enormous love for travelling, and visting some of the most iconic cities in the world, like Paris and New York…Even though I have only visited Paris, I have always longed to go to New York and live there (like the Upper East Siders on Gossip Girl aha!). Obviously, I don’t have the money to get there, nor am I old enough to travel alone, but I still hold on to that dream (or chance) that I will visit or live in New York one day. And when I do, I have planned the outfits I would most definetly wear to see some of the magnificent sites New York has to offer.

Now, I know it isn’t autumn, but if I would ever go to NY, I would go there in autumn where it is the perfect mix of hot and cold (preferably on the colder side) and everything just looks cozy, bursting with near Christmas goodies and hot food.  For this outfit, I opted for a longsleeved, striped, cut-off, turtle neck tee paired with a lush button up skirt, bringing the 90’s back. Then, as I am expecting it to be quite chilly, I think it’s okay to be a little out there, and so I decided to add purple leggings (you can find these anywhere for a cheap price) which will go nicely with the purple lips and simple winged liner eye makeup that I envision myself wearing. For shoes, black ankle boots would look adorable, paired with a dark brown leather cross-over bag, big enough for your phone, money and lipstick. And now for the jacket! I actually think this look works well with either the leather jacket or the faux fur white jacket if you a looking for a softer look, which is what I am going for as it suits my personal style. This part is actually my favourite thing for choosing outfits or presenting outfit ideas because you can always adjust the look to your own style needs or even mood for the day. So if you aren’t feeling the softer side, this look works amazing for a rocker chick vibe by just adding a leather jacket.

Top-  Luvalot,  $39.95,
Skirt- Dream House,  $29.95 (Fun fact, I was watching Clueless the other day, and Cher was wearing this type of skirt but in a maroon colour!)
White Faux Fur Jacket- City beach, $49.95
Leather jacket- Ice, $20
And the book, to guide you through New York- Lonely Planet New York City, $21.99

Lipstick- Estee Ladure, Sorry but I don’t know the shade or price as it was a gift! This lip colour offers a darker purple with a shimmery bronzey-brown undertone. However any purple colour, whether it be bright or dark looks amazing with the clothes combination.

Thank you for reading!
Let me know in the comments if you plan on recreating this outfit or similar, or even your own ideal New York outfit!

Currently Loving: New York (hence the New York themed post!), The X men movies and Marvel Entertainment

Currently Listening: Well I was watching the Hannah Montana Movie when writing this, so I guess that? Haha!

Currently not liking: I read this book recently that had such a pretty cover, but was a massive let down. Like you know how the blurb is really what makes you read the book, well this blurb was really interesting and cute and then when I read this book, the blurb lied to me! It lied I tell you! Haha! I’m probably going to do a short post on that particular book…what is this book you may ask? Well I guess you’ll have to stay tuned! ;)

Happy New Year! Woop Woop! Is it 2015 already? It seems like 2014 was only a few days ago…oh how the time flies. What better way to start of the first post of 2015 than my New Year Resolutions! Haha! I’m only kidding, I think I’ll leave that to the people who actually do have resolutions (I only have 3 and they are pretty similar to everyone else’s). Instead today I thought I would do an actress appreciation post. I actually have long list of actresses I admire, some most would disagree with but some other would be like duh!? Of course. This one, however, might be one you never even considered. So without further ado, I present to you (that rhymed hehe) EMMY ROSSUM! *cue fanfares*

It is only recently that I have become a fan of Emmy Rossum, before yeah sure I liked her work and movies but it’s only this year (I mean last year… I need to get used to saying that haha) that I have actually acknowledge how much talent Emmy has! Do you need a little convincing? I think you doooo!

At the age of 16 (I KNOW!) she became the leading lady in Phantom of the Opera, starring alongside Gerad Butler, who we all know is quite the hottie ;). In an interview with Conan O’brian, she tells the story of how when coming back from a day of work on set, she would walk past a butcher store and sing areas in order for free hot dogs…and that exactly what she did for O’brian, she sang for a hot dog with a mezmerising voice, like if you watch the clip you can see that everyones jaws dropped and there is just silence when she is singing. So I guess that kinda landed her in my list of woman I admire the most. (Nothing beats Audrey Hepburn though hehe) Singing for a hotdog

She has appeared on Shameless, and again is an amazing actress in that, but also in the recent movie Comet starring only herself and Justin Long,  there are other people in this movie but its primary focus is the love story of Emmy’s and Justin’s characters throughout the years, always shifting to different events that leaves you as the audience working out which event came first. And there is the ending of the movie with left me confused and amazed all at the same time! Struggling to follow along the plot? haha I did too, but you will definetly not be confused when you watching…well maybe a little confused… Still Rossum is an amazing actress in this once again and if you haven’t seen this film yet, please do so as I would really like to see what you thought about it!

This is actually a reply to one of my good friends, Zaitoon, through her blog She Talks Adventure with a new quirky series called IDEA BOUNCE! Basically she posted about TV shows that are underrated and I agree with her completely. Then I can reply to her post in anyway from a topic/idea that was on her post. And so, she posted about Shameless and I’m replying with my admiration for Emmy Rossum. Badabing, Badaboom.

Thank you for reading!

If you want to stay and chat, please do! Leave a comment below on your New Years Resolutions, or maybe your list of woman you admire the most! I’d love to hear them.
